NAO is a Japan-born ARTIST-INVANDOR based in France and active internationally. Using robots he designs himself, he creates performances in which sound, image, and bodily movement interact with one another.
For NAO, robots are neither tools for talking about the future nor slaves made to serve humans. In developing them, he places yokai at the center of his method — a Japanese folk logic that gives names and bodies to phenomena and relationships. Through this approach, his robots do not seek to demonstrate the capabilities of AI or robotics. They appear instead as abstract beings that embody the roles and individual identities assigned to people within contemporary society.
In his works, the actions of the performer and the relationships between robots transform sound and image in real time, allowing the entire stage to operate as a single performance system. Through interaction, sound and image give contour to social relations and hidden mechanisms, forming a rhythmic space marked by techno-noise. Through this practice, NAO stages coexistence between humans and robots as a concrete condition: unstable, rhythmic, and physically shared.

Pour NAO, les robots ne sont ni des outils pour parler du futur, ni des esclaves au service des humains.
