BAMPON

TYPE : Bump Robot

DESCRIPTION :

BAMPON is a small spherical robot designed to move across the floor and change direction when it bumps into walls, objects, or other units. Its movement is based on collision. Instead of avoiding contact, BAMPON uses impact as a way to continue moving. Each bump becomes a small decision, and the robot appears to think after touching the world.

CONCEPT :

BAMPON comes from “bump” and “ponder.” It is a robot that thinks by hitting things. Collision is not treated as an error, but as a method of sensing the space. When several BAMPON units move together, their impacts, pauses, and changes of direction begin to form a loose behavior. They do not communicate through language. They touch, turn, and continue.
