W/ARGAME

WORK IN PROGRESS
Cock-fighting is a source of gigantic gambling and desperate feuds. – Isabella L. Bird, The Golden Chersonese and the Way Thither, 1883

W/ARGAME examines war as a ritualized form of conflict. It has rules, a field, spectators, and an expected end. The audience watches the combat while also becoming part of its structure. The fight unfolds through a logic that appears controlled, even when violence is already present. In this project, the ritual is carried out by two robots. They do not fight for victory, hatred, territory, or belief. They move, collide, respond, and continue. When machines sustain a form of combat without sharing our abstractions, what do we see in them? A mirror of our own conflicts, or a game that continues with complete indifference to the meaning of war?
