TYPE : Rotating Screen Robot
DESCRIPTION :
Ji-Rone is a rotating robot with projection surfaces on its head and body. It is controlled by the performer and rotates its body around a central axis. Images projected from outside give it a face, facial expressions, and the impression of a body. The projection is not fixed. It changes according to the rotation of Ji-Rone, allowing the same physical body to wear different images depending on its direction and movement.
CONCEPT :
Ji-Rone is a manipulated robot made to receive images on stage. Its body is close to a simple box, but once images are projected onto it from outside, it begins to be read as having a face, a personality, and a presence. Ji-Rone’s identity is not contained inside its body. Its face and expressions do not emerge from within, but are projected from outside. When manipulation and projection overlap, a simple box temporarily wears a personality and becomes a spectacle in front of the audience.
